EMPLOYMENT LAW: $2-million Claim filed against Manhattan Beach City Council

May 18, 2011

Manhattan Beach – The controversial resignation of former Manhattan Beach City Council manager Geoff Dolan two years ago is now being revived with his filing of a $2-million worth of damage claims against the City Council.

Dolan alleges that the City Council’s actions led him to emotional distress and the inability to find work.

The City Council publicly released important documents relating the details of Dolan’s resignation. A breach in a separation agreement and a violation of privacy according to Dolan’s lawyer, Patricio Barrera.

The claim also states that the City Council misrepresented the facts concerning Dolan’s resignation.

Dolan resigned in the light of sexual harassment allegations brought by an anonymous letter sent to the City Council office. The letter states that Dolan sexually harassed a co-worker during an October 2009 team-building trip.

However, no criminal charges have been filed against Dolan.

The alleged sexual harassment and its subsequent release to the public led to major embarrassment and unpopularity of Dolan to potential employers, making him unable to work and suffer financial losses.

Dolan said that he will litigate if a settlement is not reached.
