11 Year Old Boy Dies From SUV Crash

Ventura County - Thomas Botello, an 11-year old boy who was involved in an SUV crash on the Fourth of July succumbed to his injuries and died today at the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.

His aunt, Page Germain, 45, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription drugs but was released into the custody of St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

The Huntington Beach resident was driving her SUV in Ventura County when the crash occurred, her nephew Thomas was seated in the rear passenger seat. Authorities say that the boy was wearing a seatbelt.

According to California Highway Patrol spokesman, Mike Untalan, Germain reportedly stopped at the intersection of Laguna and Las Posas Roads near the city of Camarillo before continuing into the intersection.

A truck going south on Las Posas, which does not have a stop sign, struck the SUV on the passenger side. It left Thomas in critical condition with major injuries to his head, lungs and spine.

Thomas had to be airlifted to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and then later on taken to the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.

Untalan also reported that Germain suffered moderate head injuries and that one passenger in the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries.
