ATV ACCIDENT: 2 Injured in Porterville when ATV Crashes into Traffic Sign, Fence

February 3, 2011

Porterville - At least two people sustained major injuries when the 2006 Honda Quad they were riding crashed into a traffic sign and a barb wire fence, said California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers.

Reports said the driver Johnny Arias, 49, from Porterville, was moving westbound along South Reservation Road at an excessive speed when he began to overtake a slower moving vehicle. However, the vehicle started to turn left, causing him to swerve to the left and head out of the roadway.

Arias and his grandson identified as Edward Hunt, 11, were both ejected from the ATV due to the crash.

According to authorities, they were taken to Sierra View District Hospital. The boy was then transferred to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno to be treated for his injuries.
