3 People Killed in Hawthorne Plane Crash

Hawthorne City, California - Three people were killed after a single-engine plane crashed on Wednesday afternoon at Hawthorne Municipal Airport which is 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

According to authorities, the plane crashed shortly after takeoff and landed into an empty parking lot north of Jack Northrup Avenue and near the airfield.

Investigators said the Beechcraft 36 Bonanza has reported mechanical failure around 4:20 pm before crashing. The plane did not hit any building or car.

According to Federal Aviation Administration (FFA) records, the plane, which was manufactured in 2005, was registered to Carpet Pros Inc. which is a flooring installation company.

The firm was not available to give comments.

Meanwhile, authorities declined to reveal the identities of victims and said they will conduct further investigation to determine the real cause of the accident.
