CAR ACCIDENT: 96-Year-Old Man Dies after Car Falls Down an Embankment

Plumas County- A 96-year-old male driver, from Paradise, has died after losing control of his vehicle, which then fell down an embankment along Highway 70 near Belden, said reports.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, Virgil Chambers was traveling west when he started to fishtail along the left curve. He failed to correct his mistake, causing his 1995 Saturn Ion to veer off the roadway and fall down into the Feather River Canyon.

He was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico, where he died after a short time due to chest and head injuries.

Meanwhile, his wife identified as Shirley Chambers, 72, from Magalia, was also inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. She was rushed to a hospital to be treated for a nose fracture and lacerations to the head.
