PREMISES LIABILITY LAW: Actress Sharon Stone to Pay $232,000 for Slip and Fall Injury Suit

July 14,2011

Los Angeles- Actress Sharon Stone will pay $232,000 as damages for a worker who fell into a 15-foot ravine in her house.

According to reports, the Los Angeles District Court has ordered Stone on Wednesday to pay the worker $232,000 as compensation for medical expenses and losses.

Peter Krause was installing a sound system in the actress' yard when he slipped on mud. He then grasped a lattice fence to regain balance, but it gave way.

Krause fell into the 15-foot ravine and suffered serious knee injury. He filed a personal injury lawsuit against Stone in August 2006 and initially sought $1.5 million as damages.

The jury found Stone guilty of negligence when she failed to ensure a safe fence within her property. The jury agreed to reduce the damages to $232,000 after hearing Stone's defense.

Stone is best known for her role in Basic Instinct in 1992. She also received recognition as Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her portrayal as "Ginger McKenna" in Casino in 1995.
