MOTORCYCLE CRASH: Alleged Illegal Street Race Severely Injures Travis Motorcyclist

March 5, 2011

Fairfield – A man stationed at an Air Force Base in Travis is in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle early Saturday morning during what seems to be an illegal street race, authorities said.

A police officer saw the 25-year-old motorcyclist and a silver car speed by north on Peabody Road near Waterworks Lane and 1.5 miles from away from the base, at about 1:10 am. The motorcycle was reportedly running above 100 mph, causing two vehicles to stop when it pulled into the roadway.

Even before the officer could start pursuing the vehicles, the motorcyclist lost control and crashed into a sign post. However, the silver car, which may have been an Acura, did not stop.

The officer provided first aid to the motorcyclist. He was taken by ambulance to Vaca Valley Hospital but was later airlifted to University of California, Davis Medical Center when his injuries turned very critical. The driver of the silver car, meanwhile, remains unknown.

Investigators believe that the two were involved in an illegal street racing. Alcohol did not appear to be a reason behind the crash.
