TRAIN ACCIDENT: Amtrak Train Crashes after Running Red Light, Injures 17 Passengers in Oakland

Oakland – At least 17 people were injured when an Amtrak train bound for San Joaquin ran a red light and crashed onto another train in Oakland at around 10 pm on Wednesday, authorities said.

Officials from both the Amtrak train and Union Pacific Freight Railroad, owner of the tracks, have already announced that they will work with federal officials to investigate the crtash.

Authorities said the crash took place when a passenger train traveling at around 15 to 20 mph ran a red light and hit another train that was unloading passengers at a stop.

Most of the injured victims were passengers on the stopped train but all their injuries were reportedly minor and non-life threatening.

The crash is the second accident in two weeks where an Amtrak train is involved and which resulted in injuries. The first incident occurred on September 30 which involve a truck and where 37 passengers and two crew members
