CAR ACCIDENT: Authorities ID Victims of Head-On Collision in San Bernardino Mountains

January 6, 2011

San Bernardino – The victims of a fatal head-on collision were identified in San Bernardino Mountains yesterday afternoon.

Frederick Foltz, 65, of Big Bear Lake and Michael Young, 45, of Yucaipa both died at the scene of the car accident while, William Young, 43, also of Yucaipa sustained major injuries and was brought Arrowhead Medical Center.

According to the CHP, the relationship between Michael and William Young is not yet clear.

The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 pm along Highway 38 between Mountain Home Village and Angelus Oaks.

Preliminary reports show that Foltz, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma eastbound, drifted over the double yellow line and into the westbound lanes.

Foltz car then crashed into Young’s F-250 pickup where both drivers were moving at 50 mph.

Studies show that a head-on collision between two vehicles moving at 50 mph is equivalent to crashing into a stationary object at 100 mph.

CHP officers determined that Foltz was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but they are still uncertain if the Michael and William Young did the same.

The crash is still being investigated by the CHP.
