Big Rig Accident in I-15 Freeway Blamed for Major Traffic Jam

September 20, 2011

Devore - Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that burned the cab of a big rig in I-15 Freeway in Devore and resulted in a major traffic jam on the San Bernardino County freeway last Tuesday morning.

Reports said firefighters arrived at the scene just in time to douse the fire of the big rig cab that was still burning when they came.

Authorities said the fire occurred in Devore on the southbound Mojave Freeway near the Kenwood Avenue exit at around 2:56 am. The cause of the fire was still unknown.

Because of the accident, California Highway Patrol officials decided to shut down Number 2 and 3 southbound lanes of the freeway. The closure resulted in a traffic jam that backed up for several miles.

Investigators are looking into possible electrical problems or defective parts in the vehicle, which resulted in the fire accident.
