RACE DISCRIMINATION: Black Tanzanian Discrimination Charge Ends with a $60,000 Settlement

April 6, 2011

Atlanta – A broadband company agrees to pay $60,000 settlement to a black Tanzanian employee who filed discrimination lawsuit based on race and national origin against them.

Allegedly, Integrated Broadband Services terminated the Tanzanian network analyst after leaving her job earlier. Yet, the company only reprimanded another white network analyst who has done graver offense, leaving work two hours earlier two times in just a week.

EEOC believes that this conduct is a clear violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which protects employees against discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

The discrimination lawsuit was filed by the EEOC on September 28, 2010 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division after a conciliation procedure failed.

The settlement decree includes the monetary relief and company retraining on equal employment opportunity. However, the broadband company expressed their denial from any liability or wrongful acts.
