PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT: Boy Struck by Garbage Truck in San Diego

June 18, 2010

San Diego – A 3-year-old boy was killed in a pedestrian accident involving a garbage truck this morning in San Diego.

According to reports, the boy was walking along 43rd Street with his mother and a sibling on their way to a parked car when he saw his father across the street.

He then ran across the street towards his father and was struck by an Allied Waste Services garbage truck.

The boy went under the truck and was hit by the rear wheels.

The truck was running in low speed and a passenger in the truck tried to alert the driver about the boy. It was too late, however, as the driver was not able to stop immediately.

The boy was pronounced dead on the scene.

A responding officer in the pedestrian accident also sustained minor injuries after being confronted and attacked by two men who were apparently relatives of the boy.

The police officer was sent to a hospital for a gash on his face.

Authorities closed down 43rd Avenue as they investigated the accident.
