VEHICLE COLLISION: CHP Report Blames Speeding Teen Driver in Fatal Highway 395 Crash Last Year

October 19, 2011

Los Angeles - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has released the results of the investigation report that pinned the blame on a speeding teenage driver that resulted in the fatal collision that killed Wendy Rice, a former Corona del Mar High School cheerleading coach, and three others last year, a LA Times report said.

According to the investigation report, the accident occurred outside Bishop when Rice’s van was hit by a driver of lost control of an SUV. The driver of the SUV, Natalie Nield, was then driving at 85 mph when she swerved to avoid a big rig passing another truck.

The SUV then spun out of control, crossed the southbound lanes, rolled over and caught fire. It rolled into the northbound lanes and hit Rice’s van.

In sum, four people died in the accident while at least 15 others were injured.
