TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY: Car accident victim suffers serious brain damage

Irvine - Fourteen-year old Ashton Sweet, a victim of a suspected drunk driver, sustained irreversible damage from a traumatic brain injury in an early morning accident a few days ago, reports said.

The accident occurred when the Mercedes-Benz Sweet was riding collided with a Toyota pick-up near the intersection of Culver Drive and Irvine Boulevard.

Sweet was with her three other friends, all of whom sustained various injuries because of the accident. The driver of the car also sustained injuries, reports said.

The car driver, Mike Ghaemi, was later released after treatment in the hospital. One of the girls, Krista Merassa, 15, remains in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup, Austin Farley, was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He is not hurt in the accident.

Farley’s has a long history of traffic law violation, including guilty pleas on drunk driving and refusal to submit to DUI tests. He is now jailed at the Orange County Jail because of the accident.

The victims’ friends condemned the accident and set up a Facebook page against drunk driving.
