SINGLE CAR CRASH: Car crashes into fire hydrant at South LA, Injures Three

September 8, 2010

South Los Angeles – A car crashed into a fire hydrant Wednesday morning, causing injuries to its three occupants, according to authorities.

The accident occurred along South Avalon Boulevard, near East 73rd Street around 2:30 am. A white two-door sedan cut off the hydrant and kept going south for another block, reaching the 74th Street before coming to a stop.

Three people were trapped inside the wreckage for a short time. One passenger reportedly suffered a broken pelvis and was taken to California Hospital. Two others were sent to USC Medical Center after acquiring moderate to severe injuries.

The crash sent water shooting up in the air. Firefighters searched for the water source of the hydrant and shut it off, according to Los Angeles Fire Capt. Dean Zipperman.
