CAR CHAIN COLLISION: Chain-reaction crash sends CHP officer to hospital

October 20, 2010

Orange County - A California Highway Patrol officer who was attending to a call was injured after being involved in a chain-reaction crash Tuesday afternoon.

The collision occurred on the northbound 241 toll road at about 4:40 pm. The officer was dispatched on the location to attend a disabled vehicle call, according to CHP officer Denise Quesada.

The officer was inside the patrol car when 2009 Nissan traveling at unknown rate of speed veered out of control. Quesada said that the Nissan may have struck the disabled Mercedes causing it to hit the patrol car or the Nissan collided with the patrol car which then hit the Mercedes.

Both the officer and the driver of the Nissan were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. The officer sustained moderate injuries while the Nissan’s driver suffered major ones.
