Mesriani Law Group Successfully Negotiates Compensation for Slip and Fall Victim

LOS ANGELES – A slip and fall victim has received compensation for injuries sustained in the accident after lawyers of the Mesriani Law Group successfully negotiated for a settlement with Farmers Insurance Group, her apartment owner’s insurer.

The accident occurred in an apartment in Huntington Park about a year ago. The incident happened in the concrete stairways of the apartment where she occupies a room in the second floor.

The victim said that she took the stairs to go to a ground floor unit to be able to use the shower, as her own shower was broken and still unfixed. As she was descending the stairs, she “suddenly lost her footing due to broken, chipped and cracked steps, loose gravel and tiny rocks scattered on the stairways”. Added to this, the “unstable condition” of the handrail did not help in preventing her fall.

When later inspected, the stairway was found to have “highly irregular tread and dimensions in its construction” and “was negligently left, and continues to be left, in abject state of disrepair”. In addition, it has also defective handrails.

The victim suffered injuries in her left shoulder, left arm, left knee, and left ankle and foot and hit the floor with “a strong impact” because of the fall.

The victim blamed the apartment owner for their failure to make the necessary improvement on the stairs and for failing to keep it safe for its tenants. Hence, the victim held the owners liable for her injuries due to their negligence.

According to the victim, she was in great pain after the fall and a neighbor who overheard her came out and helped her. Later, she was taken by paramedics to a hospital where she received initial treatment and given prescriptions. X-rays of her injured ankle were also obtained.

Subsequently, due to persistent pain on her ankle, the victim underwent further medical examinations and treatment. She had “an open versus closed reduction and internal versus external fixation ankle surgery”. Because of these injuries, the victim missed her work and therefore, incurred lost wages.
