ROLLOVER ACCIDENT: Concord Rollover Accident causes Backup, More Car Crashes

December 17, 2010

Concord – A rollover crash in a major road between Concord and Pittsburgh has caused major traffic backup and a string of other crashes Friday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

The initial crash happened at about 6:15 am on the southbound lanes of the Concord City limits. Officer Tom Maguire said that a Honda Civic rear-ended a Toyota Scion, causing it to overturn.

Fortunately, the driver of the Scion was able to get out. Maguire said that low light, fog, and rain may have been factors in the accident.

Traffic backed up because the overturned car blocked the right lane. Shortly after, another Honda Civic rear-ended a Honda Pilot. The Civic was then rear-ended by a Dodge Stratus.

Further along the backup, a PT Cruiser was also rear-ended, but the vehicle that crashed fled the scene and remains unidentified. Despite the number of crashes, Maguire said that no injuries were reported. Lanes were blocked for more than an hour while tow trucks worked to clear the road.
