“Cowboy” Killed in Weekend Pedestrian Accident in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach – Police are investigating the pedestrian accident that killed a 58-year-old homeless man last weekend. The victim was identified as Charles Reginald Conwell, 58, and was known to the community as “Cowboy” because of his western hat and boots.

Conwell had a history of being arrested for drinking in public.

According to Laguna Beach Police, Conwell was walking outside of the designated crosswalk at the 1700 block of Laguna Canyon Road when he was struck by a mini van at around 6:34 pm.

Conwell was taken to Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach where he was pronounced dead later on.

A 45-year-old Mission Viejo woman driving a mini van stopped at the scene but no arrests were made.

No one else was injured in the accident.
