Animal Attack: Coyote Attack Left Dog Dead and Woman Injured

June 2, 2011

Laguna Woods – The local Animal Services unit has trapped and caught an aggressive coyote believed to have injured a woman and killed a small dog last week at the Laguna Woods Village retirement community, reports said.

Joy Falk, a senior Animal Services officer told the local police department that four boxes have been set out in areas with heavy brush to catch the coyote which killed a dog and at least five cats.

She also said that cat food was placed inside the trap boxes and an animal who steps on the pressure-sensitive pedal will be trapped after the door closes.

The woman was walking with a mixed-breed dog on a leash Saturday at 10 am on the Avenida Majorca when a coyote began attacking the dog. According to Falk, the woman tried to wrestle the dog away and was bitten in a scuffle.

However, it is unclear if the bite was from the dog or the coyote.

The dog was taken to a local veterinarian and died, while the woman was still taking series of rabies shots, but is now in stable condition.
