ROAD SAFETY: DUI Arrests this Thanksgiving Weekend Higher than Last Year

November 28, 2010

San Francisco – The number of DUI related arrests this holiday weekend has increased by about 8 percent compared to last year’s Thanksgiving campaign against drunk drivers.

The numbers were released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) after their stepped-up campaign that began last Wednesday evening and ended this Sunday morning.

According to the CHP, there were 1,419 drivers arrested for suspicion of drunk driving during the period.

The number is significantly higher than last year’s numbers, which was at 1,314 DUI arrests.

The good news is that, although, there was an increase in DUI arrests, the number of fatalities due to drunk driving has gone down.

As of writing, there were 8 fatalities reported statewide.
