Dog Attacks: A Child's Worst Enemy
As it has been said many times before, dogs are a man’s best friend. But there are also a lot of instances where they are a child’s worst nightmare.
In Woodcrest, California, an 8-year old girl was attacked and as her rescuer put it, “almost eaten” by two dogs outside her grandmother’s house.
Alexis Gordon, who suffered multiple puncture wounds on her arms, legs and face, underwent a three hour surgery.
The dogs, which were owned by a neighbor, were taken to an animal shelter in Riverside and euthanized. No charges were pressed against the owner because he cooperated with authorities.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, every year, 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs. Children are one of the most at risk for dog bite injuries especially those aged 5 to 9 years old.
Negligent owners who fail to leash or control aggressive dogs may be held liable for injuries suffered by persons who have been attacked by their pets.
