Dorel Asia Cribs and Graco Strollers Recalled Due to Safety Issues

Defective or dangerously designed products can cause injury or death to its users and children’s products and toys have been a common subject of product recall.

Take for example quite recently, there were two massive recalls of products for infants -- Dorel Asia cribs and Graco strollers.

According to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there is a voluntary recall of 1.5 million units of Graco strollers due to fingertip amputation injuries while Dorel Asia is recalling some 635,000 cribs after multiple reports of injuries and in one case, the death of a 6-month old baby.

Owners of Graco’s Passage, Alano and Spree Strollers and Travel Systems are advised to stop using their strollers which were manufactured between October 2004 and February 2008. They can check the model and manufacture date on the lower inside portion of the rear frame right above the rear wheels.

There were 20 affected models of Dorel Asia cribs with drop sides and fixed front rails which have been recalled because of several defects which can trap, injure and suffocate a child.

Both Graco strollers and Dorel Asia cribs have been sold in leading retailers such as Kmart, Sears, Wal-Mart, Babies “R” Us, and even Toys “R” Us.

As a remedy, Graco is offering a free protective cover repair kit for the stroller’s cannibalistic stroller’s canopy hinge mechanism while Dorel Asia will be giving away free repair kit for their cribs.

In a statement, Dorel Asia said that there is nothing more important than a baby's health and safety. Indeed, babies and young children are at that vulnerable age where their well-being largely depends on the safety of products they use thus it is very important that manufacturers ensure the quality of the products they put out on public.

While bumps and bruises are a normal part of growing up, parents should still be able to rely on the safety of the products they purchase for their kids. Getting their precious child’s fingertips amputated because a faulty hinge is certainly not what they had in mind when they bought their strollers.

Under Product Liability Law, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers will be held liable for damages as a result of the death or injury inflicted by their defective products.
