Driver in Bus Crash Suffered Cardiac Arrest

December 9, 2009

Los Angeles - The unidentified 47-year-old woman driver of a runaway bus Wednesday morning has reportedly died from cardiac arrest, authorities said.

According to her supervisor, the driver had no apparent medical problem as she recently had her physical exams.

Reports indicate that the vehicle, a City of Gardena municipal bus, went out of control shortly before 6 am at the intersection of Normandie Avenue and 220th Street.

The bus hit a fire hydrant and utility poles before it crossed the median before finally stopping in front of a house.

The four passengers of the bus appeared unhurt. No one else was reported to have sustained injuries.

Police are yet to determine whether the cardiac arrest happened after the crash.
