DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION: EEOC Files Lawsuit against Indiana-based Computer Services Company

January 12, 2011

Fort Wayne, Indiana – The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a disability discrimination lawsuit against Alpha Rae Personnel and Affiliated Computer Services this week.

The lawsuit was filed last January 10 in the US District Court in Indiana by the federal agency in behalf of Patricia Parker, who suffers from Tinnitus and Fuchs’ dystrophy.

Tinnitus is a hearing disorder where the patient suffers ringing in the ears while Fuchs’ dystrophy patients suffer from a defect in the rear surface of the cornea, which could cause build up of fluids that can result to vision problems and some pain.

In the lawsuit, the EEOC alleges that Alpha Rae and Affiliate Computer Services improperly coordinated in the termination of Parker without offering her reasonable accommodations or assigning her to a different position.

The EEOC is seeking back pay and compensation for damages Parker sustained including medical costs, job related expenses and losses related to the firing.
