ROLLOVER ACCIDENT: Elderly Driver Dies in Shasta County Rollover Accident

Shasta County - An 83-year-old male driver died after his car went down an embankment and rolled over along Highway 299, said California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers.

Jerry Marinus Van Soest, from Fall River Mills, was moving eastbound along Highway 299 near Redding when the accident occurred at around 4 p.m.

Reports said the driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to go over an embankment, hit several trees, and overturn. The vehicle then stopped near North Cow Creek.

Van Soest died at the accident area. Authorities have not yet determined if he suffered from a medical condition prior to the crash.
