CAR ACCIDENT: Elderly Driver Runs over Man, Injures Children

March 21 2010

San Diego – An unidentified 86-year-old driver critically injured a man Sunday afternoon after running over him in a Bay Ho parking lot and hitting the vehicle where the man’s two young children were seated, reports said.

The elderly driver on his Cadillac Coupe de Ville was reportedly pulling out of a Costco store in Morena Boulevard at around 3:00 pm when he accidentally stepped on the gas after mistaking it for the brake pedals.

As a result, he hit the vehicle behind him before hitting the victim and the family car where his two children were eating pizzas. The elderly driver then appeared to go faster as he went through a fence and went across the patio before hitting the building’s side wall.

The children sustained minor injuries after being thrown out of the family SUV from unclosed doors. Their father, a 40-year-old man was said to be standing outside the SUV and loading plants into it when he was run over by the Cadillac. The man suffered from internal bleeding and had a broken pelvis and a punctured lung.

The elderly driver was not charged but his driver’s license was suspended.
