Family of a Woman Who Died on the Hospital Floor Receives $2M Settlement

Last year, a woman who waited for nearly 24 hours in a waiting room in Kings Hospital Center in Brooklyn collapsed on the floor due to blood clot.

A surveillance video shows that for 30 minutes, Esmin Green,49, struggled to stand but her efforts were futile. Meanwhile, doctors, nurses, security guards, and other patients saw her condition, stopped for a while to satisfy their curiosity, and left the woman lying lifeless on the floor.

For nearly an hour, no one bothered to check her in a place where people are supposed to provide care for those who will need it.

With the growing public outcry, the hospital paid Green’s family $20 million as a settlement for wrongful death. While this may be a significant amount, any reasonable person will think that this is not enough to compensate for the loss of life, especially when this has been caused by negligence.

For those who have seen the video, it may be hard to imagine how on earth the hospital employees, who are supposed to care for the sick, showed complete apathy and disregard to human life.

Meanwhile, this incident is a wakeup call for everyone to make sure that such hospital abuses and negligence will not happen again.
