Mount Shasta - A Santa Clara woman died after being struck by a falling rock during a recreational climbing activity at Mount Shasta.

Kathi Jeanne Ludwig , 56 years old, was ascending the 11,000 feet when a medium-sized rock hit her torso and knocked her down at the foot of the mountain.

Ludwig sustained severe fractured ribs and bones. California Highway Patrol rescuers airlifted and rushed Ludwig to a local hospital, but she died minutes later due to cardiac arrest.
