Firefighter Died After Falling in a Helicopter

July 21, 2009

Willow Creek, California - A 20-year-old firefighter died after falling in a helicopter during a training exercise early Tuesday morning, US Forest Service officials said.

In an interview, Forest Service spokeswoman Robin Cole said the victim was rappelling from a helicopter in Humboldt County as part of the weekly training that prepares firefighters to contain forest fire which is common in some parts of California.

Meanwhile, authorities declined to reveal the identity of the victim but said they will investigate the accident.

Last week, a girl also died during a training program with lifeguards when her back and legs were hit by the boat's propeller.
