DUI: Former Club Worker to Receive $100,000 from Employer after DUI Accident

February 3, 2010

Birmingham, Alabama – A Jefferson County jury has awarded at least $100,000 to a former stripper who filed a lawsuit in which she alleged that a club employer’s negligence is the reason why she can no longer dance after being involved in a DUI accident.

In the suit filed by Patsy Hamaker, from Bessemer, she claimed that her employer at The Furnace was unable to stop her from driving home after she had done her on-the-job drinking. She was injured in an accident that happened after she left work on Oct. 17, 2007.

Hamaker stated that the club was unable to comply with its own safety rules when it allowed her to drive. Meanwhile, the club’s lawyers argued that workers tried to stop her from driving home.

Reports stated that the jury award was only provided for compensatory damages. Hamaker will not receive punitive damages.
