EMPLOYMENT LAW: Former LA Cops Demand $300 Million in Employment Suit

March 22, 2011

Santa Ana – Around 170 former police officers from an LA-based agency have filed a $300 million suit to compensate for their damages after their company disbanded, the reports said.

According to the suit filed with the Orange County Superior Court, the absorption of the Los Angeles County Police into the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department has caused the loss of job for almost 170 police officers. Some of them accepted low-paying jobs, while some did not.

The officers’ attorney said that his clients are experiencing a lot of difficulties after giving up their badges. Some of their clients are being threatened by gangs and syndicates that they have dealt with while they were still on duty.

The Los Angeles County Police, commonly known as the Office of Public Safety, was the fourth largest police agency in Los Angeles County, having hundreds of sworn police officers and civilian personnel, before it was absorbed by the sheriff’s department.

The complainants are seeking compensation for retaliation, age discrimination, and violation of police officers’ bill of rights.
