PERSONAL INJURY LAW: Glendale Hospital Offers Innovative Program for Elderly Drivers

April 2, 2011

Glendale – The Glendale Adventist Hospital has introduced an innovative program for elderly drivers especially those who suffered a stroke or related medical condition, an NBC report said.

The report said the Driver Rehabilitation and Community Mobility Program would include a comprehensive evaluation of a person’s physical, cognitive and executive function.

The program’s rehabilitation specialist Robin Hoos said the program will evaluate several factors, including one’s reaction time and multi-tasking ability. Therapists also offer refresher courses and also recommends vehicle modifications and adaptive driving aids, he added.

The program can help determine who is unfit to drive or put in restrictions as the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is provided with results of the evaluation.

In cases where the rehabilitation is related to stroke or medical condition, the course is often covered by medical insurance.
