DISCRIMINATION: Glendale Police Department Faces Harassment and Discrimination Charges

January 26, 2010

Glendale - At least five Glendale police officers have filed charges against the Glendale Police Department, claiming that they suffered from harassment and discrimination under it.

In the complaint filed before the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, the police officers claimed that they faced continued and systematic harassing, retaliatory, and discriminatory conduct that was based on ethnicity. Based on complaint, the officers were mostly Armenian.

The suit also claimed that the police department continuously mistreated Armenian civilians.

The five police officers, who have worked in the department for more than 40 years, claimed that the continued direct abuses and discriminatory practices were done not only against them, but also to the general public.

They said that the department also failed to promote them and continued with harassment, and retaliation against them when they voiced out their stand against discriminatory practices.

The Glendale City Attorney’s Office has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
