ITC Affirms Banning of Samsung LCD Products in US

November 10, 2009

After a series of investigations, the International Trade Commission has ruled that Samsung Electronics LCD-equipped devices have violated the patent rights of its rival company Sharp and ordered the technology giant to stop shipping the said products to the US.

In response to this ruling, Samsung Spokesman James Jung said it will not have a negative impact to the company’s sales.

“We can still meet the market demand for our LCD products. Our consumers and business partners are rest assured that they can still avail these since the company will use other display technologies not covered by the injunction.”

According to previous reports, Sharp accused Samsung of infringing two of its patented technologies that allow LCD panels to align the liquid crystal to improve the brightness and color and reduce image noise.

Meanwhile, the federal government will review the injunction within 60 days to determine if the ruling should be lifted or continue.

Samsung officials said they are expecting the ruling to be overturned.
