DOG ATTACK: Infant Bitten, Lugged by Great Dane

December 14, 2010

Monrovia – A 6-month-old baby was bitten and tugged away from her mother by a Great Dane Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The mother and child were visiting a neighbor along the 600 block of Laurel Lane when the accident happened at around 2:30 p.m. A 3-year-old, 170-pound Great Dane bit the infant, “took her from the arms of the mother," and carried her 200 feet before it let go and ran back home, said authorities.

Monrovia paramedics responded and treated the child before she was flown to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. She was treated for bite injuries to the chest. The child reportedly experienced some complications, but is now in stable condition.

The dog has been quarantined and will remain there for 10 days during the investigation. Authorities stated that there is no record of aggressive behavior from the dog prior to the attack.
