AVIATION ACCIDENT: Judge approves $17 million settlement on Lear jet

March 17, 2010

Los Angeles - LA County judge has concluded the Lear jet crash case involving Chris Baker's family with a $17 million settlement.

Learjet Inc. and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. paid the remuneration plus a college financial assistance for Baker's son. Baker's wife will also receive $7.6 million.

Baker served as the bodyguard of Travis Barker, former Blink 182 drummer. Baker was killed in a plane crash on September 20, 2008, that also injured Barker and Adam Goldstein "DJ-AM" at Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mary Strobel carried out the decision in favor of Otilia Baker and her son.

Brian Panish, lawyer for the Baker family, commented that the settlement will help finance young Baker's education and living expense.

"It's a very sad case, but we're glad they were able to avoid a trial and receive full compensation," Panish said.

Goldstein eventually died after suffering from major injuries due to drug overdose.

Barker and Goldstein's settlement were left undisclosed. Baker's case required thorough inquiry because of a child involvement.

Lear jet's reverse thrusters encountered technical trouble that resulted to the plane crash. Thrusters enable the jet engines on the back to shift movement. Federal investigators were still examining other causes of the crash.

Lear jet pilots faced difficulty in hampering the take off at Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
