CAR-TRAIN COLLISION: Light-rail Collides with Car, Injures Four in Downtown LA

November 10, 2010

Los Angeles – At least four people were injured after a car crashed into a light-rail commuter train in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 3:15 pm on Flower Street near the 18th Street Intersection, according to Metro spokesman Rick Jager. Authorities believed that the driver of the car attempted to turn left in front of a Metro Blue Line train which was traveling south, resulting in the accident.

LA City Fire spokesman Erik Scott said the driver suffered severe injuries, while two train passengers had non-life threatening injuries. They were all taken to hospitals.

Another passenger sustained minor but was treated at the scene because he did not want to be taken to the hospital. All of the victims complained of neck and back pains, Jager said. Their identities remain undisclosed.

All 150 people on board were transferred to a different train to continue their travel. Commuters experienced a 20-minute delay because of the accident, which is still under investigation.
