RAILWAY ACCIDENT: Man falls onto Metro Red Line tracks; remains in critical condition

October 19, 2010

Los Angeles – A man is in critical condition after he fell onto the tracks of Metro Red Line train in Hollywood Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

Investigations showed that the accident occurred at around 7:30 am when- the man fell from the platform onto the tracks of the train’s Hollywood and Vine station. He was hit by the train and was trapped between the tracks, making it hard for LA City Firefighters to rescue him.

Two of the tracks were de-energized in the underground site in order to rescue the man. He was finally freed before 8 am and was sent to a local hospital in critical condition. Officials said he was breathing when he was pulled to safety.

The accident, which is still under investigation, resulted in a 20-minute delay in trips between Hollywood and Tujunga stations of the Metro Red Line.
