VEHICLE CRASH: Market Street multiple Vehicles Crash Injures 12

April 8, 2010

San Francisco - A multiple vehicle crash in Market Street has injured at least 12 people at around 4:41 p.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators said an F-Market streetcar collided with a bus that was heading west of Market Street near Second Street. Subsequently, the bus hurled into a car, injuring several passengers.

San Francisco police said that five people were rushed to the hospital, while seven other passengers received first aid treatment.

Investigators said that preliminary inspection found that a mechanical failure of the brake system may be at fault.

“I tried to step on the brake, but it didn’t work,” The streetcar driver explained.

Both the Muni streetcar operator and the bus driver underwent Blood Alcohol Content and drug tests.

San Francisco police officers were still waiting for the results. Investigators, however, observed no visible signs of drug or alcohol intoxication among the drivers.

The real cause of the multiple-vehicular crash is still under investigation.
