Mesriani Law Group Settles Racial Harassment Claim for $50,000.00

Ms. Simmons was an employee of a division of the County of Los Angeles for over 15 years. Ms. Simmons, who is an African-American, was subjected to severe discrimination by a group of peers due to her race. She suffered insults, changes of work assignments, and even a physical attack by a co-worker as a result of her race.

Due to her conflicts with a certain group of co-workers, Ms. Simmons was forced to endure daily embarrassment and humiliation. She endured threats and racial slurs. In one incident, a co-worker kicked her with a steel toed boot and other employees stood around and laughed while she was in pain. The ordeal was so harrowing that Ms. Simmons began to fear for her life. The harassment and discrimination was so pervasive that when she complained to her supervisors they refused to file the appropriate reports. Ms. Simmons was forced to file on her own behalf. No disciplinary actions were taken and it was Ms. Simmons who eventually ended up suspended as a result of retaliation from the other employees.

Ms. Simmons was not financially able to leave her position, but she was able to seek the help of Mesriani Law Group. Mesriani Law Group stepped in and immediately began to fight for Ms. Simmons’ rights to a safe workplace. The Employment Division’s team of attorneys and investigators navigated their way through the roadblocks that the County entity put in their paths and were able to secure the evidence needed to prove the truth about what had occurred. Cowed by the overwhelming evidence against them, the County entity, who had previously refused to consider settlement, was forced to settle the claim for $50,000.00.
