ANIMAL ATTACK: Mom Shoots Dog after Attack

May 19, 2010

Lake Forest – The mother had to shoot a dog that tried to attack and bit her 6-year-old girl and 1-year-old son, reports said.

Reports indicate that the girl was playing with her 3-year-old sister when a boxer from the area bit and grasped her by her shoulder. The girl’s screams prompted neighbors and her 14-year-old brother to try to scare the dog away.

The girl’s mother then went out with her younger son and tried to stop the attack. She was able to pull her daughter to safety but was followed by the dog that then tried to bite the toddler.

The woman put all her children inside the house before she was attacked by the dog when she tried to scare it away. She was able to break free and went inside the house to retrieve a pistol and shoot the dog.

Rescuers aided the girl who sustained several injuries all over her body including those on her legs and face. She was later brought to the family pediatrician and is expected to recover.

The dog lay still for a period of time before it got up and tried to get away from the house. Authorities were able to corner it and bring it to a veterinarian to be treated for the gunshot wound. Witnesses say the dog was from the area but they are unsure who owns it.
