Muni Bus Collides with Pickup Truck in Potrero Hill

January 6, 2010

San Francisco – Police and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency are investigating the cause of the collision between a Muni bus and a pick up truck in a Potrero Hill intersection that sent several people to hospitals with minor to serious injuries.

Initial investigations of the San Francisco Police show that the 19-Polk bus was traveling on the northbound lane of De Haro Street while the pickup truck was going west on 18th Street before they collided on the intersection that is controlled by stop signs in all four directions.

The driver of the bus, who was identified as Pete Pon, and five of his passengers were sent to hospitals for moderate injuries.

Two other passengers were evaluated by responding fire fighters but refused to be sent to a hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained major injuries and has not yet been identified by authorities.

Poon, who was hired by the agency in 1979, was placed on a non-driving status while the investigations are ongoing.

He will be tested for drugs and alcohol to rule it out as factor in the vehicular accident.
