PERSONAL INJURY LAW: New Study Bares Even More Danger in Texting While Driving

October 6, 2011

Los Angeles - A new study conducted by Texas Transportation Institute has revealed that there is more danger in texting while driving than it was previously believed.

Research further showed that reading or writing a text message doubles the driver’s reaction time in about three to four seconds, which is enough to cause accident in a split-second. The normal reaction time is about one to two seconds.

Texting while driving is banned in some states like California and has corresponding penalties under its motor vehicle laws. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics showed that distracted driving is one of the causes of some of the fatal accidents in the country.
