CONSTRUCTION ACCIDENT: OSHA Investigates Fatal Studio City Trench Collapse

February 9, 2011

Los Angeles - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is conducting investigations on the accident involving a trench that collapsed and resulted in the death of a construction worker in Studio City on Tuesday.

OSHA officials surveyed the residential construction site in Coldwater Canyon Boulevard to determine if safety measures were implemented at the time of fatal accident, reports said.

Reports said that the construction worker died after a trench he was working in 3931 N. Oeste Avenue collapsed. The worker was digging a sewer pipe line of 2 ft. wide and 8 ft. deep when it gave way, burying him up to the neck.

The man was pronounced dead at 3 p.m. despite rescue and medical efforts of Emergency Medical Services and Los Angeles Fire Department.

CAL-OSHA is investigating if the owner of the construction company or the subcontractor adhered to state regulations on safety.
