Online Database for Recalled Product Information

September 22, 2009

Several food companies have launched an online system that will allow manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, and suppliers to exchange information about recalled foods and other hazardous products, the Food Marketing Institute reported recently.

Rapid Recall Exchange has a more interactive feature compared to the existing recall database system the food industry is using, the group said.

Food Marketing Institution (FMI), a group that represents food retailers and wholesalers, said the new online database focuses on effective communication between companies to ensure that dangerous products will be pulled out from the market.

In a statement, FMI President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Sarasin said the system will provide critical insights and experts’ opinion that will be easily accessible to its members.

Meanwhile, GS1 US which is an organization that provides safety standards for consumer products said the “online database system will allow companies to check the safety of their products while “improving the speed and accuracy of recalls.”

Rapid Recall Exchange works like an interactive social networking which is used exclusively by food companies. With this online system, members can receive email alerts and send private messages to their trading partners.
