CAR CRASH: Over-speeding Seen as Culprit in Newport 10-Car Pileup

January 17, 2011

Newport Beach – Investigations revealed that an over-speeding motorist caused the tragic 10-car pileup that resulted in the death of three people in Newport Beach’s Coast Highway last Saturday.

Initial police reports said a woman was driving at an excessive speed of more than 90 mph as it crossed the narrow stretch of the highway where banks, storefronts and car dealership stores were located.

Witnesses said the car driven by the woman hit three vehicles before broad-siding a pickup truck. It also struck a motorcycle and other cars near the Riverside Avenue stoplight.

Although police have discounted drugs and alcohol as factors in the accident, they are still looking into the causes of the female driver’s driving distractions.

The accident resulted in the death of the female driver and the occupants of the truck, including its driver.
