CAR COLLISION: Passenger without seatbelt proclaimed dead after rear-end collision

May 25, 2010

Sacramento – A rear-end collision that happened Tuesday morning along the westbound lane of Highway 50 has left a 52-year-old woman dead.

The unnamed woman was a passenger in a 1998 Chevy Camaro driven by Rodney Glass. According to California Highway Patrol, the car ran out of gas and stopped at the lane four of the highway.

Glass turned on the emergency lights and sat in the car with his seat belt buckled. However, reports show that the woman, who was sitting on the passenger’s seat, did not have her seatbelt fastened.

Shortly, an El Camino driven by Jay Stebley changed lanes from lane four to three and hit the Camaro on the rear. He allegedly didn’t see the Camaro when he looked over his shoulder before changing lanes.

Both drivers acquired moderate injuries and were taken to UC Davis Medical Center. The woman was declared dead at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation and relatives of the woman are yet to be notified.
