TRAIN ACCIDENT: Pedestrian Dies in Downtown LA Amtrak Train Crash

Los Angeles - A pedestrian was killed in an Amtrak train accident near downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday morning.

An Amtrak 562 train was approaching Santa Fe Avenue and 8th Street Bridge when it struck a pedestrian on the railroad tracks at 6:20 am, according to Los Angeles Police reports.

Reports said that the Amtrak train was en route to San Diego from Los Angeles Union Station when it hit the pedestrian. It was unclear why the person was on the railroad tracks at the time of accident.

Rescuers arrived, but pronounced the pedestrian dead minutes after the crash. Police officers commented that the person might have been a transient.

The Amtrak train 562 was carrying 30 passengers and crew members, but no one was injured.

Amtrak train operations on line 564 and 573 were also suspended as authorities investigate the details on the cause of accident. Orange County Line and Metrolink train operations were expected to face delays.
