Police Hunt For Killer Latino Hit and Run Driver

August 25, 2009

San Diego – The police are now searching for the driver of a 1989 Nissan Sentra who fled the scene of the accident after he struck and severely injured a 65-year-old Tijuana man on state Route 94.

The victim, Gregorio Bejar Valencia, whose left leg at the hip was severed due to the force of the impact was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was struck by the unidentified driver when he pulled onto the shoulder near the 30th Street off-ramp to clean the windows of his 1988 Chevrolet truck.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Brad Baehr, the Sentra which struck Valencia smacked against the left rear of the truck before it hit the victim, who was standing next to the driver's side. Valencia’s co-worker who was on the other side of the truck got minor cuts on his knees.

The driver of the Sentra reportedly pulled over and walked to the truck to see what happened but then told the passenger to put his flashers on before running away. He was seen headed down the 28th Street ramp.

Police tried to search for the driver in the nearby homes but he was not found. The driver, described as a Latino around the age of 25 to 35 years old, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.

The unidentified hit and run driver is now wanted for felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
